This one of a kind driftwood sculpture was created by removing the root section of a very large tree that washed ashore on a Texas beach in 2019. The intriguing art piece, that I believe strongly resembles a rhinoceros, is certain to be the focal point of any area where it is displayed.
After being removed from the larger tree, there was a conscious effort to minimize the alterations made to the driftwood. Longer roots were removed and the piece was thoroughly washed and scrubbed. The wood was then lightly sanded and recessed areas were made to accommodate felt pads added to the bottom surfaces.
This piece of natural sculpture weighs just over 7 pounds and stands 19 inches tall. It is 18 inches wide and has a depth of 9 inches. It is very rigid and all cracks are shallow and superficial.
