Myrtillocactus geometrizans (also known as Blue Myrtle Cactus, Billberry Cactus, Blue Flame and Blue Candle Cactus) is a fast growing succulent native to Mexico. These plants branch to form candelabra-like trees as they mature and produce edible fruit in the spring. Their attractive bluish-green color and hardiness make them a great low maintenance choice for a xeriscape or planter.
The listing photos show all sides of the two cacti that are available. At their widest points, both have a diameter of 2-1/2 inches (not including their spines). One plant has a height of 12-1/4 inches and the other measures 13-1/2 inches tall. One of these blue myrtle cactus plants will be included with each order. They were photographed growing in their 1 gallon containers, however they will be shipped without pots or soil.
Myrtillocactus geometrizans can easily grow to a height of 8 feet, and can reach 15 feet under ideal conditions. Although they can survive temperatures as low as 25 degrees, they should be protected from frost and freezing if at all possible. Their needs are typical of most other cacti. Plant them in well draining soil and in a planter having plenty of drainage. Water when dry during summer months and only once per month at other time of the year. Full sun is ideal, however they can tolerate a partially shaded location.
