This very unusual piece of oak was found within a large hollow tree that once grew on our Texas ranch. It appears that this tree reached a height of approximately 5 feet, and for some unknown reason, chose to grow another trunk around the original. The tree lived for many years, eventually reaching a height of over 40 feet, with this secret tucked away inside.
The front face of the piece features a recessed area that becomes a partially hollow cavity as it continues downward and exits the base. It has a great textured surface overall. Upon being removed from the hollow cavity of the tree, the piece was sanded and washed to remove any loose material. The wood that remains is well preserved and solid.
The items stands 37 inches tall and measures 6-3/4 X 5-1/2 inches at the base. It has a weight of just over 8-1/2 pounds.
