This mature twisted rib cactus is certain to be a unique addition to any succulent collection. This is a great opportunity to obtain a plant that is rarely offered for purchase. The first two photos were recently added and show the two blooms that opened on 4/26/2020.
This visually striking cactus is native to parts of Texas and Mexico and has been classified, and reclassified, several times. Scientific names include Ferocactus setispinus and Echinocactus setispinus however Hamatocactus bicolor appears to be the most widely accepted. It also has several other common names, such as twisted hedgehog cactus and fishhook cactus.
The twisted rib cactus appears to be hardier than other cacti that can be found in its natural habitat and has been reported to survive frequent winter freezes. It also has an extended bloom season with the yellow flowers often decorating the plan for the warmest 6 months of the year.
The "pits" that can be seen on the plant mark the spots of former blooms.
This is a larger plant being approximately 3 inches tall and 4 inches wide, near the maximum reported size of 4-1/2 X 4-1/2 inches. As can be seen in the final listing photo the plant is also budding, the small young plant emerging at the base.
This twisted rib cactus will be shipped with soil to protect the roots, however a pot will not be included. Shipping to any address within the United Sates via Priority Mail is part of the listing price.
