Pride of Barbados (also know as Peacock Flower and Mexican Bird of Paradise) is an evergreen shrub in areas that do not experience frost, a deciduous shrub in zone 9 and a returning perennial in zone 8. These also make wonderful container plants in colder climates and can even be grown indoors if provided plenty of sunlight. Our mature plants have endured temperatures as low as 17 degrees, growing as large and vigorously as ever the following year.
Pride of Barbados is known for the beautiful orange, red and yellow flowers that adorn the bush from late spring through fall. The unusual fern like foliage is also a great way to add contrast to a planting bed. Hummingbirds and butterflies visit our plants daily when they are in bloom.
Each order will contain one healthy pride of barbados plant, in your choice of two sizes. At the time this listing is being created, we have two larger plants (seen growing in their 2-1/2 gallon containers) as well as one smaller plant (growing in a 1 gallon pot). All three plants are between 14 and 18 inches tall and are two to three years old. The potted plants shown in the listing photos are the actual plants that are available.
The plants will be shipped with soil however pots will not be included. They will be well packaged for transport, however the plants should be unpacked, watered and exposed to sunlight as quickly as possible. A planting and care guide will accompany each shipment.
Shipping via USPS Priority Mail to any location within the contiguous United States is included in the listing prices. Shipping to an address outside of this area is not available. We ship plants within 24 hours, unless your shipment will be impacted by USPS non-delivery days (Sundays and holidays). Depending on your location and when your order is placed, we may hold your order to avoid excessive transit times.
