There are many possible benefits associated with introducing natural driftwood into an aquarium. Not only does it make the tank more attractive, it can provide hiding and breeding areas. As a former long time aquarium owner, I also know that adding a new item to the tank can create huge issues.
Introducing a piece of improperly prepared driftwood into a balanced aquarium can cause serious problems and could lead to a completely dead tank. However, preparing driftwood for an aquarium environment takes time, more time than most aquarists are willing to invest in a piece of wood. The two pieces of driftwood in this listing were collected from the Texas coast. After being scrubbed, the pieces were soaked in fresh water for over a week. The water was changed daily and most, if not all, of the tannins were removed from the wood. The pieces were then scrubbed a second time to remove any additional loose material and boiled for over an hour to sterilize the wood. After being allowed to thoroughly dry, the pieces were bagged and stored.
The two pieces have approximate measurements of 11 X 10 X 2 inches and 9 X 3 X 1-1/2 inches. The wood is solid, however may require additional anchoring. To provide an idea of how they would appear in the aquarium, the final listing photo was taken when the pieces were thoroughly soaked.
