The wood used in this shelf owes its striking appearance to a preparation technique knows as Shou-Sugi-Ban. The wood has not been stained, it was charred using a 2,000 degree Fahrenheit flame before being sealed with a wood oil. This wood treatment not only highlights the natural wood grain,but provides a beautiful finish that far outlasts any paint or stain. The piece does not smell of burned wood and the charred wood does not rub off when touched.
The shelf measures 23-1/2 inches in length, it is 11-1/2 inches deep and has a thickness of 1 inch. The front edge has been rounded and the two flat surfaces have differing grain patterns. The shelf is reversible, allowing the preferred top surface to be displayed when installed.
Two mounting brackets are included and measure 6 inches from the underside of the shelf to the
bottom of the bracket. The brackets attach to the shelf using 4 screws that, once installed, are recessed into the shelf top. All other mounting hardware (screws and hollow wall anchors) are also included.
