Yucca aloifolia, also known as Spanish Dagger, Spanish Bayonet and Aloe Yucca, is a relatively cold hardy plant that is native to coastal areas ranging from North Carolina to Texas, portions of the Yucatan and the Caribbean. Growing as much as 12 inches in a year, this quick growing yucca can reach a height of 12 feet. They are nearly indestructible and stand out no matter where they are planted.
The common names for this plant make reference to the stiff, sharp-pointed leaves that can reach 24 inches in length. The trunks are somewhat slender relative to the overall size of the plant and the trunk may branch over time. Offsets (baby plants) commonly appear around the base and may be separated from the parent or left in place to form a dense colony.
The first listing photo shows a more mature plant growing on my property. The balance of the photographs show a portion of the Spanish Daggers being offered. They were photographed growing in 1 gallon containers however will be shipped without soil or pots. All plants shipped as part of this listing will be similar to those shown.
Yucca aloifolia can be grown in USDA zones 7 through 11 and require little to no maintenance. They are extremely drought tolerant and only need to be watered when initially planted. Although providing them with full sun is ideal in most areas of the country, I plant mine in areas shaded from the brutal late afternoon sunlight of Central Texas. Their salt tolerance and preference for sandy soil make them perfectly suited for planting in coastal areas. They may be grown in nearly any soil type including poor and thin soil, caliche and in areas having a high clay content.
Shipping to any address within the United States, with the exception of those in California, Hawaii, Alaska or the US island territories is included in the listing prices.
