Feather Cactus Clusters, Mammillaria Plumosa - Free US Shipping

$20.00

Mammillaria plumosa, better known as "Feather Cactus", is a showy and unique succulent that is native to Northeastern Mexico. These cactus clusters are rather cold hardy and are very easy to grow.

The listing photos show the clusters that are available and are identifiable by their assigned letters. The photos were taken on 4/3/25 and may or may not be in bloom when shipped. Clusters "A" through "D" are shown growing in their 4 inch pots. Cluster "E" is shown in a 3/4 gallon, 6 inch diameter, pot. These will ship with a small amount of soil, however the pots will not be included.

The diameters of each cluster:
Cluster "A": 2-1/2 x 2 inches
Cluster "B": 3-1/2 x 2-1/2 inches
Cluster "C": 3-1/2 x 2 inches
Cluster "D": 3-1/4 x 3-1/4 inches
Cluster "E": 5-1/4 x 5 inches

These plants are densely covered with white feathery spines and can reach a height of 5 inches. Offsets emerge when the plants are 2 to 3 years of age, forming a mound that becomes increasingly larger. I have seen these produce clumps that measure over a foot in diameter, containing over 100 individual plants. Small but attractive flowers can form in spring or fall depending on environmental conditions and may be white, yellow or pink.

The Feather Cactus requires soil that drains very freely. A mixture of 50% sand or perlite and 50% standard cactus soil works well. During warmer months, they should be watered as soon as the soil has completely dried. It should be watered every 2 weeks during the colder months. These are hardy to around 20 degrees Fahrenheit but should not be exposed to freezing temperatures for long periods of time. They do best when provided 6 hours of direct sunlight per day, however the cactus may scorch if exposed to late afternoon sunlight in the summer.

PLEASE NOTE: We do not use heat packs and we are not responsible for damage related to the plants being exposed to cold temperatures.

We cannot ship these plants to addresses in the states of California, Hawaii or to the US island territories. Shipping to any address within the United States is included in the listing prices.
