This occurs when wood is exposed to environmental conditions that allow fungi and bacteria to colonize and live within the tree trunk or branch. Over time, the organisms produce the lines and streaks that make spalted wood a much sought after material. The slices in this listing are completely natural and no substances have been applied to the wood.
