This large piece of iron pyrite, also known as fool's gold, was formed deep within the limestone located beneath Austin, TX. This nodule was coated with the white limestone when found, however the weight of the stone left me with little doubt that something else was contained inside the rock.
All of the limestone has been removed, revealing an absolutely brilliant specimen. The surface is covered with sparkling gold crystals and the entire stone appears to be covered in glitter.
The piece measures roughly 2-5/8 X 2 X 1-1/2 inches (67 X 50 X 38mm) and weighs 9 ounces (255 grams).
