These two specimens of Mennegoxylon jonesii, an extinct tree species, were cut from the same piece of fossilized wood. The fossilized wood from this species is more commonly known as "snakewood", as the cell structure found within the material resembles snake skin. The very rare piece of petrified wood providing these pieces was collected from a location in Burleson County, Texas where the Yegua Formation, the only geologic layer that contains snakewood, was exposed. Both faces of the two pieces have been polished to clearly display the crystalized scale-like cells.
These are being offered as a set containing both specimens. Both sides of the two pieces are shown in the listing photographs. They measure roughly 1.10 x 1.00 inches, are 1/2 of an inch thick and have a combined weight of 1.20 ounces.
