This petrified wood was preserved in great detail and was collected from a spot in East Texas. The high silica content of the interior make this a good potential candidate for slabbing.
This fossilized tree section is between 40 and 50 million years old. It has been washed and scrubbed but is otherwise in the condition it was found. The bark that remains was preserved in an off white color and has a thin orange to yellow layer beneath it. The interior is glossy and displays several shades of brown.
The specimen has a length of 11-1/4 inches and a width measuring 5-1/8 inches at one end, tapering down to 4-1/8 inches at the narrow end. It has an average thickness of 2-3/4 inches and weighs 8 pounds, 3 ounces.
