One of the easiest wildflowers to start from seed, the black-eyed Susan (Rubeckia hirta) is a must have for anyone wishing to create a colorful wildscape.
Also known as brown-eyed Susan, these plants are part of the Aster Family and are known to grow in 46 states (Alaska, Arizona, Hawaii and Montana being the only exceptions). It is a native biennial, sprouting and forming a rosette of leaves in the first year and flowering the second year. Depending on location, these plants begin to bloom between April and August and will continue for up to three months.
These are adaptable plants that will grow in any soil type except for caliche, in full to partial sun and in dry to moderately moist conditions. They are a great source of nectar for butterflies, especially in northern regions, and will readily reseed.
These seeds were hand collected from the fields of my Texas ranch in June of 2024. Each seed pack will contain 10,000 seeds that were harvested from several fields to increase the biodiversity of the contents. Photos showing the size of individual seeds as well as the contents of a single seed pack are included in this listing. Small pieces of non-seed material will be present in the seed packs, however this is accounted for when the seeds are packaged. A planting and general growing guide will be included with each order. We suggest a planting rate of 1 pack per 100 square feet.
Shipping to any address within the United States, with the exception of those located in the state of California is included in the listing prices. We cannot ship these seeds to destinations within California or to those outside of the United States.
