Echinopsis oxygona or Echinopsis eyriesii, also known as the Easter Lily Cactus and Sea-Urchin Cactus, is a succulent native to South America. These plants are best known for their large (up to 8 inch) white, pink or lavender blooms that appear in early spring, and this plant is beginning to from buds.
The listing photos show the exact Easter Lily cactus cluster being offered. The mother plant is 4-1/4 inches in diameter and stands 4-1/2 inches above the soil. There are a minimum of 30 offsets attached around the main plant. The entire cluster has a diameter of 7-1/2 x 7 inches and it was photographed growing in an 8 inch pot. The blooming process has begun as indicated by the two flower buds that have appeared. The final photo shows a different Easter Lily cactus in bloom, but provides an example of what can be expected from this cluster very soon.
These cacti can grow to have a height and diameter of 8 inches. They rapidly produce offsets, small baby plants, that grow from the mother to form clusters that can become several feet in diameter.
Like most cacti, the Easter Lily is very easy to grow and will perform well if a few simple guidelines are followed. The planting soil must drain freely and, although the Easter lily cactus enjoys more water than other cacti, the roots must not be subjected to prolonged wet periods. It can withstand cooler temperatures, even frost, for short periods of time however they will thrive if kept between 50 an 95 degrees. Direct morning through midday sunlight is ideal and they may scorch if exposed to direct late day sunlight.
This cactus will be shipped with a small amount of soil however the pot is not included. Even though it will be packaged to minimize the possibility, a portion of the offsets will likely become separated while in transit.
