Sorry, this item has sold.

The golden barrel cactus (Echinocactus grusonii) is an attractive succulent equally suited for planting in a xeric landscape or in a planter. These serve as great accent plants, are very easy to grow and are moderately cold hardy.

The healthy golden barrel cactus offered in this listing is 10 years old, has a diameter of 8-1/2 inches and is 6 inches tall. Measurements are to the tips of the spines. The listing photographs show the exact cactus growing in a 10 inch diameter pot. The pot and soil will not be included when shipped.

Native to central Mexico, the golden barrel can grow to a diameter of over 3 feet and can reach heights of 4 feet. They have a typical lifespan of around 40 years, however there are many documented cases of 100+ year old plants.

These plants have few requirements to remain happy and healthy. Sandy and well draining soil is a must, as is plenty of direct sunlight. In warmer climates they should be shielded from late afternoon summer sun to avoid being scorched. They should be watered once every 10 to 14 days between late spring and early fall, and once per month for the balance of the year. Although typically considered hardy to USDA zone 9, these cacti can survive brief exposure to temperatures as low as 15 degrees as long as they do not receive water prior to the drop in temperature.

Shipping by Federal Express Home Delivery to any address within the contiguous United States, with the exception of those in California, is included in the listing price. We cannot ship this cactus to destinations within the state of California or to those falling outside of the contiguous USA.
